Pages to be parsed

ParsersParser Settings

Limit which PDF or email conversation pages are processed

Limit which pages to parse lets you choose which PDF or email conversation pages PARSER processes. By default, PARSER processes every page. When you enable this setting, you can choose only odd pages, only even pages, or a custom list or range.

For PDFs, the page numbers match the document. For email conversations, page 1 is the newest visible message, page 2 is the message before it, and so on. Other file types use the full document.

When to use it

Use Pages to be parsed when:

  • Your PDFs have cover or blank pages you don't need (e.g. only odd pages have content)
  • You want to save time and credits by skipping pages that don't contain data
  • You only need data from specific pages (e.g. pages 1-3, or 1, 5, and 10)
  • You process double-sided scans and only need one side (e.g. odd or even pages)
  • You receive long email conversations and need only the newest few messages

How to set it up

1. Go to your parser's Settings -> Parser Settings.

2. Find Limit which pages to parse.

3. Turn the toggle on to limit pages (leave it off to process all pages).

4. When the toggle is on, choose one of:

  • Only odd pages - Pages 1, 3, 5, 7, ...
  • Only even pages - Pages 2, 4, 6, 8, ...
  • Page ranges - Enter a custom list or range (see below).

5. Click Save Parser.

Page range options

Only odd pages

Use when the content you need is on odd-numbered pages (e.g. 1, 3, 5, 7, ...). PARSER will skip even pages.

Only even pages

Use when the content you need is on even-numbered pages (e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8, ...). PARSER will skip odd pages.

Page ranges (custom)

Use when you need specific pages or your own pattern. Enter one or more of the following, separated by commas:

  • Single pages: 1, 5, 10 - only those pages
  • Ranges: 4-7, 12-16 - all pages from 4 to 7, and 12 to 16
  • n-based patterns: 2n-1 (odd), 2n (even), 2n+1, 3n - every 2nd page starting at 3, every 3rd page, etc.

Examples:

  • 1, 2, 8 - Only pages 1, 2, and 8
  • 4, 7, 12-16 - Pages 4, 7, and 12 through 16
  • 2n-1 - Same as "Only odd pages" (1, 3, 5, ...)
  • 2n - Same as "Only even pages" (2, 4, 6, ...)
  • 2n+1 - Pages 3, 5, 7, 9, ...
  • 3n - Every third page: 3, 6, 9, 12, ...

How page limits work with splitting and credits

PARSER selects the pages configured in Pages to be parsed before it splits the PDF or extracts data. Splitting and extraction use only that selected set of pages.

For example, if you upload a 1,000-page PDF and enter 1-6:

  • Only pages 1 through 6 are considered for fixed or AI splitting
  • Only those six pages are sent for data extraction
  • Standard processing and optional per-page features are charged for those six pages, not all 1,000 pages

If Split with AI is enabled with standard extraction, the example above uses 6 AI split credits + 6 standard processing credits = 12 credits. Fixed splitting does not add a splitting charge.

See Credits and Billing for all credit calculations.

How email pages are counted

Each visible message in an email conversation counts as at least one page, including a one-line reply. If one message is longer than 5,000 visible characters, it continues onto additional pages.

For example, a forwarded conversation with five short messages has five pages. Enter 1-3 to process the three newest messages. Pages 4 and 5 remain visible in the document's Email tab but are not sent for extraction or included in page-processing credits.

Email attachments remain separate documents. A 27-page PDF attachment is still a 27-page PDF, and the configured page range is applied to it independently.

Tips

  • Leave it off when unsure - If you're not sure which pages to use, leave the toggle off so all pages are processed.
  • Test on one document first - After setting a page range, run a test document to confirm the right pages are extracted.
  • Odd/even for scans - If you scan double-sided and only one side has data, use Only odd pages or Only even pages to match your scanner order.
  • Newest email messages - Use a range starting at page 1, such as 1-3, to process only the newest messages in a conversation.
  • Credits - Only the pages you select are processed and used for per-page credit calculations, so limiting pages can reduce credit usage for long PDFs.
